Frequently Asked Questions - Grease
What is a grease trap and why do I need one?
A grease trap is a special tank that all kitchen drains go through prior to going to the municipality sewer system. The municipalities require them to keep grease from solidifying in the main sewer lines causing major problems and sewage backups. Trust me, no one wants that!
My city is requiring me to pump my grease trap more than others I know with commercial kitchens. Why?
The frequency of pumping required by the city is often a formula based on the size of the restaurant, size of grease trap installed, and type of food prepared. So if the restaurant expanded but the grease trap did not then it has to be pumped more frequently to keep the trap clean
My city is requiring a show documentation of pumping. Can you provide that?
Yes, we can. We also can show what we are doing with the waste so you can ensure your waste was never dumped illegally.
The drains in my kitchen wont drain. Is that a grease trap problem?
It very well could be. If you have one drain in a kitchen not draining, call a plumber. If you have multiple drains that aren’t draining, call us.
What happens to the grease after it leaves your kitchen?
Unlike most haulers who do not have their own disposal facility, we can ensure that the material is recycled properly. Our state of the art facility turns challenging waste material into three things: clean water that is discharged to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, solids that are composted, and rendered brown grease that is used for as feedstock for fuel. We are the only facility within 100 miles that effectively recovers this brown grease.
